FAQ

1- After having received a confirmation from Barcelona-Interns that my application has been taken into consideration, when can I expect a placement? We will get in touch with you as soon we found you a suitable placement.

2- Would it help to call Barcelona-Interns to ask whether a placement has been found yet? We will get in touch with you as soon as we found you a suitable placement: calling will not get you a placement sooner.

3- How big is the chance of finding me a placement? It depends on demand: we will do all we can to arrange your internship (normally within 3 months). If you really want an internship it is worth taking our ‘option 2′ Guaranteed Internship program.

4- How far in advance do I need to subscribe? We request the students subscribe at least 3 months in advance. Sometimes however we have vacancies and we can place you straight away. However, be aware that an internship demands preparations from your side as well (like insurance, grants, updating your student coordinator, renting out your student room back home, arranging financial resources) that can take up some time.

5- Do I need to pay for the subscription? YES, there is a cost of 75 euro for subscription involved for the guaranteed placement (option 2), and 25 euro for the standard program (option 1). On accepting the internship position, and there is an agreement with the company, you need to pay the amount of 350 euro (option 2) or 325 euro (option 1). You will receive an invoice from Barcelona-Interns on registration and on acceptance.

6- Do I need to come to Barcelona for the interview with the company? Most of the time the company will give you a call for an interview over the telephone. Sometimes the company asks you to present yourself in an interview in Barcelona. It is up to you to do so; it won’t necessarily mean they will hire you for the job. It does on the other hand show personality and enlarges your chances.

7- Will I receive a monthly remuneration from the company? The company is not obliged to pay you for your work.That said, most pay.

8- Can I apply for a placement of only 6 weeks? No, we only mediate in placements of at least 3 months.

9- Do I need to speak Spanish fluently when I apply for a placement in Barcelona? When you would like to have a job with a lot of responsibilities, fluency in Spanish is necessary. In case your Spanish is basic, do not expect to be able to do tasks of big importance in a Spanish company. However, many placements are with international companies where you do not need to speak Spanish. Your English level needs to be fluent to advanced.

10- Can you guarantee to find me a placement? You can subscribe for the guaranteed placement (option 2) in case you need time to prepare yourself for your stay in Barcelona. This way you can organize all well in advance.

11- Would it be possible to find me a duo-placement, for my friend and me? Sometimes duo placements are available. This is not usual though and cannot be guaranteed however.

12- Do I need a visa to work in Spain? European students do not need a Visa to work as an intern in Spain.

1- What is the average rental price for a room? Barcelona-Interns organizes rooms in cooperation with roomproviding agencies. In case you need us to arrange your room just let us know and we will hand out the details. Average price of these rooms per month is 450 euro.

2- Can I stay longer in the student apartment after my internship has come to an end? If you rent a room via Barcelona-Interns you have to inform us well in advance.

3- Do I need to bring my own towels and sheets? You have to bring these with you yourself. Sometimes there will be sheets in the apartment, but it might be nicer for yourself to bring your own.

4- Can I invite family and friends to stay in the apartment with me? If you live in a room provided by Barcelona-Interns this is an item you have to make clear from the start with your housemate: living together with somebody you do not know so well demands adjustments in your private life. Inform your family or friends that they need to book a hotel and cannot stay with you in your small flat.

5- Is my room in the centre of town? All the rooms are in or near the centre. We will try to get you a room close to your work. Public Transport however is very well organized in Barcelona.

6- Is there a washing and ironing service in the apartment? In the student apartments there are a washing machine, an iron and iron table: you need to take care for your clothes yourself.

7- Is diner being served in the apartment? You need to cook your own food. If you wish somebody makes your diner you can choose the option to rent a room with a host-family.

8- Is there a fridge in the student apartment? In the student apartment there are basic facilities. A fridge, washing machine, oven, and cooker are standard equipment.

9- Will there be an Internet connection in the student apartment? More and more Internet connection is available. This is not a standard utility in the appartments though. Easy Internet cafes (called Locutorios) are all over town if you do not have Internet at home.

10- Will there be a telephone connection in the student apartment? In some houses there will be telephone connection. You cannot use this phone to make phone calls, but family and friends could call you.

11- Will there be a cleaning service in the student apartment? You need to keep your bedroom tidy yourself. In a shared apartment there will be rules, like who is taking the garbage out this week and who is going to clean the toilet. These rules will be made when you arrive: sometimes there will be a cleaning lady: you are lucky then.

12- Will I get my deposit back? A deposit is paid in advance, and can be seen as insurance-money for the landlord. When things get broken, missing, when rules are not complied with or when you leave without informing the tenant well in advance, you will not get (all of) your money back. This is your own responsibility. Ask for a receipt when you pay the deposit, and ask how far in advance you have to inform the tenant about leaving`.

13- Do I have to stay in the room provided by Barcelona-Interns? No, you are free to look around for an room yourself.

1- When do I need to pay for the placement? The mediation costs of 350 euro (option 2) or 325 euro (option 1) must be paid after an agreement between the company and yourself has been made. An invoice will be sent to you and needs to be paid by bank transfer within a set timeframe. Be aware that a bank transfer from one country to another takes at least 8 working days, and will cost about 10 euro. This amount has to be paid by the student as well.
